Playing It Safe
If, like many others, you're hitting the London nightlife scene this weekend, make sure you do it safely. Playing it safe doesn’t mean that you can’t have a good night, just that you know how to look after yourself - avoiding injuries and hospital visits and even that nasty hangover which sometimes follows a good night out.
- Make sure you eat before you go out, or whilst you are out. This will to reduce the negative effects of alcohol.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the evening to keep your body well hydrated. Also try to drink a glass before you go to bed - the main symptoms of a hangover are caused by dehydration.
- Try to take a break. Every so often, replace an alcoholic drink with a soft drink.
- Only drink what you know you can handle. Don't give in to peer pressure and avoid trying to keep up with your friends.
- If you're currently on medication, seek advice from your doctor - ask if it's safe to drink on your particular medication.
- Avoid 'hair of the dog'. Aim for a 48 hour break after a heavy drinking session. Your body needs time to recover.
